The edges of the back cover are worn with some of the pigskin missing, the covers bear traces of central ornaments and corner-pieces which are no longer present. The eighth volume of of the collected works of Saint Augustine of Hippo, or Aurelius Augustinus. This volume contains his commentaries on the Book of Psalms, here in a corrected and annotated edition by Erasmus, being a first edition printed by the Swiss printing office of Froben. The famous humanist, Desiderius Erasmus (1469-1536), was the first to prepare an edition of the Complete Works of Augustine, he added his own observations as well as numerous corrections to previous editions. The work is bound in a firm and richly blind-stamped pigskin binding, bearing the title on both the spine and front cover.)
