A fine openwork silver binding from the last third of the 17th century over black fish skin on wooden covers. Chased and gauffred book covers, 2 engraved spine bands (1 replaced) of silver, 2 silver clasps. Gold edges on three sides. H. 11,5 x W. 6,5 cm) Identically designed book covers: within a frame enclosing the cover edges, openwork acanthus leaves and pomegranates, each with an oval cartouche in the center. The upper backstrap was replaced. Endpapers of marbled paper. Contents: (B. Förtsch). Newly-emerged water-spring, before God’s devoted, and spiritually-thirsty souls. Together with a complete Evangelical Hymnal. Tidied up by the Spahten (i.e. Kaspar v. Stieler). With portrait and 8 copper plates. Not in VD 16; cf. Dünnhaupt 3957, 20. About the third edition of the new edition of Förtsch’s collection of Protestant hymns. Comes in a matching, later case.
