Title-page within a woodcut border, woodcut initials and tailpieces, 88 numbered, full-page plates, and one unnumbered folding double-page plate of a leaping horse, with a circular diagram of the anatomy of the horse. A free and extended German adaptation of one of the most beautiful books of all time first published in 1558 in the Italian original (“Ordini di cavalcare et modi di conoscere le nature de’ cavalli.”), first published in 1566 German translated. The present improved revision by Johann Fayser d.J. is a new translation from the Italian original end contains according to Menessier de la Lance “additions très importantes”. The previously falsely attributed to Jost Amman magnificent woodcuts served as a template for his 1584 published “Knightly Reutter Art”. The illustrations show horses in full and in detail as well as various bridles, riding figures, and tournament scenes. The title page and all plates are contemporary hand-coloured.
Spine renewed in the old style, clamps missing, modern marbled endpapers. Some old manuscript annotations in the margins. The title page is strengthened. A piece of page 52 in the lower corner, 8.5x 8 cm., completed with some words in the manuscript. A good copy in fine contemporary handcolouring.
