New clasps and straps, the back cover lacks a small piece of vellum, the text block has been rebound into the binding. A collection of three early philosophical works published at Wittenberg. The first, ‘Examen Eorum’, is a summary of the protestant doctine by the German Lutheran reformer, theologian and philosopher Philippus Melanchthon, 1497-1560. Melanchthon was the first systematic theologian of the Reformation, his views were a.o. inspired by the works of classical philosophers hence the works of Cicero, Plutarch and Isocrates that are bound with this copy. Old annotations and underlinings throughout most of the works containing additions, corrections and references to Bible texts and other books. Bound in an attractive blind-stamped binding with a lage central panel on the front cover depicting Luther with above his image the initals G.N. and below the year 1598. A firm and complete copy.)
