The Reformer Andreas Hyperius (1511-1564) or Andreas Gerhard, named Hyperius after his place of birth Ypern, was a theologian originating from the Southern Netherlands and for many years an influential professor of both theology and philosophy at the University of Marburg. His views laid the foundation of scientific treatment of practical ecclesiastical life and resulted in the first published homiletics worthy of the name.)
