(6, 23, 6) 263 (3), 60 p. Origineel verguld Perkament, Folio.

(6, 23, 6) 263 (3), 60 p. Contemporary decorated Vellum. First illustrated edition of Stoke’s mediaeval rhyming chronicle (885-1305) with additions by Cornelis Van Alkemade. The fine series of 35 full-length portraits of the reigning princes of Holland were engraved after paintings in the Carmelite Monastery at Haarlem. According to the editor, the portraits of Philip of Austria, Emperor Charles V, and Philip II of Spain were omitted as they were not present in the Haarlem series on which the plates were based but were only added to complete the list of rulers. The portrait of Jan III was never executed for unknown reasons. (Endpapers renewed, binding and text block some spotting, small paper restoration.) 35 engraved plates including 31 full-length engraved portraits of the Counts of Holland on 31 plates, 1 folding with 2 portraits, 1 plate depicting death. All portraits are contemporary fine hand-coloured. Brunet. 548, Haitsma Mulier/v.d.Lem 9a
